PROJECT SUMMARY

The Douglas Arterial Duplication project (DAD) involved the duplication of and existing 7km section of Motorway in Townsville. The scope included; earthworks, pavements, Ross River 8 span bridge, 3 x road overpasses, retaining walls, surfacing, electrical, ITS, road furniture and land scaping.

The project bordered the urban area of Douglas and major employers of the Townsville Hospital, James Cook University and the Lavarack Army Barracks.

The project was constructed by the Lend lease Joint Venture and design by Aecom as a novated design subcontract to the JV. The project was tendered as an Early Contractor Involvement and delivered as a D&C lump sum Risk Adjusted Maximum Price (RAMP)

ACHIEVEMENTS

The new Ross River Bridge substructure and bund for access was a major milestone as it had to be installed and removed in between wet season. This was successfully achieved.


During the course of the project almost 200 induvial traffic guidance schemes were successfully planned and implemented.

The project was successfully delivered ahead of the contract time frame and within the RAMP amount.
