BRUCE HIGHWAY UPGRADE (VANTASSEL TO CLUDEN)

PROJECT SUMMARY

The Bruce Highway Upgrade (Vantassel to Cluden Project (V2C) involved the construction of a new 4 lane rural highway standard road and associated infrastructure at the southern entrance to Townsville from Zinc Avenue to University Drive. The project was 7km long and included a new Stuart Creek Bridge, Road Rail overpass, upgrade of 7 existing intersections and an increase in general flood immunity throughout.

The scope included; PUP relocations, clearing, earthworks, levees, soft soil treatments, pavements, surfacing, drainage, electrical, ITS, road furniture, bridges, reinforced earth retaining walls, and landscaping. The project was a complex brownfield construction that was required significant staging, PUP interaction and traffic management.


The project was tendered as an Early Tenderer Involvement and delivered as a construct only RCC AS2124 contract.

The project adopted a relationship management process including a PLG and regular relationship health checks.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Achievements and highlights for the project include:


• 500,000 man hours LTI free
• Completed 10 weeks ahead of contract timeframe
• Less than 4% of lots subject to NCR
• Zero environmental non conformances
• Minimal stakeholder issues

A soft soils alternate tender was successfully adopted and delivered which reduced the overall contractors cost by >$200k and saved 4 weeks in time.
